The final embrace
“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.” ~ Maria Rilke in Letters to a Young Poet
Every year as we move through the heart of August, we are greeted by the energetic threshold known as the Lion’s Gate Portal. Peaking on August 8th, this alignment is historically celebrated as a time of heightened cosmic energy and bold manifestation. Yet this year feels different to me. The guidance, the hint suggests that we must look at our wounds, nurture ourselves, and embrace the healing of letting them go.
My intuition has been loud and clear. While the Lion’s Gate is often focused on drawing in new abundance, this specific portal is asking us to do something equally important. It is asking us to close out old karmic cycles. We cannot welcome in the new without release of the old.
The universe is entirely backing up this intuitive nudge. We are in 2026, which numerologically reduces to a ten (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10). Ten is the ultimate symbol of completion. It marks mastery of lessons and the quiet pause before we pivot into the fresh spark of a one. When we look at the date 8/8, we are looking at a double dose of the number eight. Turned on its side, the eight becomes the lemniscate, the universal symbol of infinity. In esoteric astrology, eight is also closely tied to Saturn, the planetary lord of time, limitations, and karma. This double-eight energy illuminates the continuous loops we have been running and offers us the awareness needed to finally step off the wheel.
The current astrological skies mirror this exact mandate. On August 3rd, the wounded healer comet Chiron stationed retrograde exactly at zero degrees of Taurus. Zero degrees is the absolute threshold between the past and the future. Chiron, who sits in the stars after he surrendered his immortality to undo a great injustice, peers now into the past. Instead of pushing forward, Chiron is retreating to help us finish unresolved healing regarding our old wounds.
Furthermore, during this Lion’s Gate, the moon will be in steadfast, grounded Taurus. A Taurus moon is not interested in fleeting promises. It demands lasting, structural change. It asks us to examine what we are finally ready to release because our old foundations are no longer supportive. Taurus, the home of Venus, asks us to love our dragons tenaciously, with the stubborn fixation of the bull.
Closing karmic cycles requires more than just a passing thought. It requires deep, intentional healing. Our bodies and spirits hold onto these patterns, and we must support our total well-being in any way necessary as we process such heavy energetic shifts.
This is a profound time to listen closely to your inner guidance. Pay attention to the messages surfacing in your dreams, as the subconscious is working overtime right now to untangle old threads. If you sit with tarot cards or other tools of reflection, pull a few to gently illuminate the exact cycles you are being asked to leave behind. Focus on anchoring your energy deep into your Root and Earth Star, or Visundhara, chakras.
Spend time meditating on where you feel you are looping. Write those recurring patterns down, and then physically step outside to plant your bare feet in the dirt. The portal is open, offering us the courage to let go. Honor the cycles you have completed, and allow the old energy to return to the earth.
